Patrick M. Dowd is an Assistant Professor of Substance Abuse at Southern University at New Orleans. Mr. Dowd has over 18 years clinical experience in the field of addiction counseling. He is a member of the Addictive Disorders Regulatory Authority, which licensed him as a Licensed Addiction Counselor and as a Certified Clinical Supervisor. He earned a Masters Degree in Social Work and is a member of the National Association of Social Workers.
Patrick Dowd is a member of many professional outreach organizations including, the Louisiana Association for Substance Abuse Counselors and Trainers and the Substance Abuse Counselors Organization. He conducts outreach workshops and seminars through these organizations focused on Addiction Education.
Program Guidelines:
- Sixteen (16) week program/two hours a week.
- Group Time: Fridays 7:00-9:00PM.
- Complete Addiction Assessment.
- Group Counseling.
- Family Counseling.

Program Focus:
- To understand the Disease Concept of Alcoholism and Drug Addiction.
- To identify and change negative behaviors associated with substance abuse/dependence.
- To identify internal and external relapse triggers.
- To understand and apply the twelve steps of recovery to everyday life.
- To identify and process internal/external life stressors through various approaches, such as: sober skills, relapse prevention, family group, process group, and individual sessions as needed.
Philosophy:
It is our policy to acknowledge the dignity and privacy of all clients and to protect their rights. Staff members carry out their duties in a manner that insures the self-respect, individuality, and confidentiality of each client. Therapy is designed to promote insight, awareness, and the coping skills necessary for recovery from their addiction.

Red Cross is offering $2000 free counseling to anyone who suffered any losses from Katrina… whether it be loss of a family member, home, furnishing, job, income, etc.

What Do We Do?
Each month, we offer a one day workshop ($90.00 prepaid or $125 at door) or a weekend workshop ($125.00 pre-paid or $150.00 at the door) on Gestalt, NLP, Addiction or our own THE PSYCHOGENETIC SYSTEM™ Couple, Parenting & Family coaching approach. Each year, we offer two 5 day Psychogenetic training program intensives, one in the summer and one in autumn. Both of these programs are open to every interested person. Our highly qualified faculty is composed of many well-known therapists and teachers and our own graduates. We offer CEUs for CIT, BCSAC and LCSW counselors. Join us. Ongoing weekly adult and/or children’s group sessions are $150.00 per month. One pre-group session ($90.00) is required. Individual and couple sessions with Anne Teachworth are $90 for each 45 minute session or $325 for four sessions.

We do have some funds available for this and welcome applications… although it is important to be aware that an application is not a guarantee of a grant. We make grants on the basis of various criteria [geographic and ethnic diversity, etc] and are also limited by the amount available in the fund for this conference.
